AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyzstan has reached preliminary agreement with Kazakhstan on import of 500 million kWh of electricity in the first quarter of 2020, First Deputy Prime Minister Almazbek Batyrbekov said. Due to the dry hydrological cycle the Toktogul water reservoir contains less water than in the previous year - just 14.8 billion cubic meters of water, which is for 2 billion cbm less, the First Deputy Prime Minister stated.
"Kyrgyzstan supplied around 300 million kWh to Kazakhstan under electricity exchange arrangement. Since September 15, we will get this 300 million kWh of electricity from Kazakhstan. Besides, the government plans to import 500 million kWh due to dry hydrological cycle," the First Deputy PM stated.
The preliminary agreement was reached with Kazakhstan on purchase of 500 million kWh of electricity in the first quarter of 2021, but the price is yet to be determined, Almazbek Batyrbekov said.
Kazakhstan will determine the electricity price for the next year at the beginning of 2021, he added.
"Increase in generation of electricity is planned at the Bishkek combined heat and power plant. Hopefully, no rotational blackouts will be practiced this year," the First Deputy Prime Minister suggested.
