Journalists NGO and Media Policy Institute with the support of Soros Foundation - Kyrgyzstan launch a project on monitoring violations of the rights of media employees. This was announced today at a press conference in 24.kg news agency.
According to Marat Tokoev, there are no exact data how many journalists applied to law enforcement agencies, how many - to court, how many were attacked for 2018 and in the first quarter of 2019.
The briefing participants also noted that media workers do not hurry to contact the police. Especially in the regions, conflicts are settled on the ground, and such signals do not reach human rights organizations.
There are cases when journalists write statements about attacks or threats, but these incidents are domestic.
The head of Media Policy Institute Begaim Usenova stressed that it is possible to help a journalist to defend his or her rights only if they are interested in it. Complaints about non-admission or restriction in providing information to journalists will be examined separately.
