Draft law on the protection of children from information harmful to their health or development may lead to media censorship. This is the opinion of Altynai Isaeva, a lawyer of Media Policy Institute NGO.
She noted that the bill proposed creation of an authorized body that would control the dissemination of information, conducting information expertise, age marking.
But it is not clear how an information provider will decide whether it harms children or not.
"Providers are put in such conditions when they bear risks and will have to contact the authorized body for expertise. It's a media censorship tool," the lawyer said.
Altynai Isaeva adds that there are laws in the country that regulate the work of the media, they clearly state what information should not be disseminated: pornographic, extremist, humiliating honor and dignity.
She believes: the state body will put providers in a dependent position, which can be regarded as a corruption risk.
Recall, the deputies developed a bill on protection of children from information harmful to their health or development.
