AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyzstan must pay off its energy debts of 10.3 billion soms ($147 million) by 2025, said Prime Minister Muhamedkaliy Abilgaziyev delivering a report of the government for 2018 to the parliament.
"Kyrgyzstan's economy is dependent from Kumtor gold mine. Today energy debt of Kyrgyzstan reaches 102 billion soms, which a huge part of the budget. In 2019, we must pay off 4.6 billion soms debt. By 2025, this sum increases to 10.3 billion soms," he said.
In late 2017, misunderstandings and dispute with neighboring countries led to economic problems, he said, reminding of the situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border. "We all know what closing of borders led us to. Freight trucks were trapped near border, which affected the trade turnover. Our exporters suffered the most. Breakdown in the Bishkek power plant also affected the economic situation," PM said.
PM said in 2018, the situation was stabilized.
Government's activities are assessed by four indicators: execution of the government program, execution of the state program, population confidence index, and republic's standing in international rankings.
