Bishkek, Apr. 24, 2019. / Kabar /. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Aidarbekov met on Wednesday with EU Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian, who arrived in Bishkek.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that during the meeting Aidarbekov and Burian discussed the course of negotiations on the draft new Agreement on expanded partnership and cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU.
The sides also exchanged views on the organization and holding of the regular EU-Central Asian Foreign Ministers meeting in the Kyrgyz Republic, the visit of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini to the Kyrgyz Republic. They drew attention to the need to enhance economic cooperation.
The Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU Special Representative positively noted the results of the international conference on the new EU Strategy for Central Asia "Cooperation for Sustainable Development", organized on the initiative of the Romanian side, which took place on April 15-16 this year in Bucharest.
At the same time, Aidarbekov paid special attention to the importance of continuing EU support for the reform of the electoral system in the Kyrgyz Republic, taking into account the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2020.
The sides also discussed joint work on solving the problem of uranium tailings in the Kyrgyz Republic.
