Osh and Bishkek cities pay homage to Chernobyl disaster victims

AKIPRESS.COM - Bishkek and Osh cities held events on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of liquidation of consequences of the Chernobyl disaster on April 26.
Participants laid flowers on the monument to the Victims of Chernobyl in Osh city and held a minute of silence. Deputy Osh mayor, deputy Osh region governor, liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster aftermath, and others participated in the event in Osh.
Today, 36 liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster consequences live in Osh.
In Bishkek, Deputy chief of Bishkek council, deputy mayor of Bishkek, representatives of the embassies of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, as well as citizens came to the event to pay tribute to the victims of the Chernobyl disaster.
The Chernobyl disasterwas a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on 25-26 April 1986 in the No. 4 nuclear reactor of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near the now-abandoned town of Pripyat, in northern Soviet Ukraine.
Liquidators were the civil and military personnel who were called upon to deal with consequences of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in the Soviet Union on the site of the event. Liquidators are qualified for significant social benefits due to their veteran status. Many liquidators were praised as heroes by the Soviet government and the press.
