Bishkek, Apr. 29, 2019. / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov held three meetings within the framework of the ministerial meetings of the SCO member states on the threshold of the SCO Summit, the President’s press service reported.
The SCO summit will be held in June 2019 in Bishkek.
At the meeting with Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu, President Sooronbay Jeenbekov thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for his personal contribution to the development of bilateral relations and for the military-technical assistance provided to the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The sides discussed issues of international and regional security, the fight against international terrorism and extremism, and expressed the general view that the further joint work of the defense departments of Kyrgyzstan and Russia should only be increased in the interests of the security of states.
Further President Jeenbekov received Ministers of Defense of the SCO member states of China Wei Fenhe, Russia Sergey Shoigu, India Nirmala Sitkharam, Kazakhstan Nurlan Yermekbayev, Tajikistan Sherali Mirzo, Uzbekistan Bakhodir Kurbanov, Pakistan’s Deputy Minister of Defense Ikram Ul Haq, Director of the Executive Committee of the RATS SCO Jumahon Giyosov, and Deputy Secretary General Shaku Shi Xie Xiaoyun.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov noted the importance of the meeting of defense ministers of the SCO member states on the eve of the SCO Summit in Bishkek.
"During this short period, the SCO has declared itself as an independent structure capable of solving global problems. Currently, the geopolitical infrastructure is undergoing major changes, which requires us to integrate deeper. The agreements reached by the heads of the SCO member states testify to the progressive development of cooperation in all areas of state activity, especially in ensuring security," the President emphasized.
He noted that the growing threats of terrorism, illicit drug trafficking and organized crime indicate the need to step up joint efforts to meet the challenges of preserving peace and stability in the region. In this regard, the SCO demonstrates an example of close fruitful cooperation while preserving the interests of ensuring the equal and indivisible security of each state.
At the meeting with the Minister of Defense of China, Wei Fenhe, an exchange of views took place on the development of cooperation in the field of strengthening the security of the two states.
"Our states have common positions on the fight against the "three forces of evil"- terrorism, extremism and separatism," said Jeenbekov.
He expressed confidence that the visit of Minister of Defense Wei Fenhe to Kyrgyzstan would make a significant contribution to strengthening cooperation between the two states in the field of security.
At the end of the meeting, Jeenbekov confirmed that Kyrgyzstan is an active participant in the Organization, consistently promoting initiatives taken within the SCO framework, ready for further open and equal dialogue in the field of security, including the development of defense cooperation.
