AKIPRESS.COM - UrAsia mining company met local community, but not all supported their activities, First Vice Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov said in Parliament today, Tazabek reports. The license of the company was earlier extended until 31 December 2020, the First Vice PM said.
Mining companies should hold meetings with locals upon obtaining a license, he said.
"The company held meetings according to its plan. But some say they did not know about that, others said they attended the meetings," the First Vice Prime Minister explained.
Not all people supported activities of the company, he specified.
The company obtained a license for exploration only, it does not have a permission for mining, the First Vice Prime Minister underlined.
Exploration of the Kok-Moinok uranium deposit by UrAsia was completely stopped, Issyk-kul region administration said April 25.
To date, all heavy-duty vehicles were removed from the site and the buildings were closed down by the UrAsia mining company.
The public hearings on the development of the Tash-Bulak uranium deposit were held in the Kok-Moinok village in Ton district in autumn 2018. The most of the villagers were against the deposit development saying that it will affect environment and people's health, Turmush reports.
