AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakh Minister for Information and Social Development Dauren Abayev commented on May 1 protests in several cities of Kazakhstan speaking at the Habar national TV program.
"Protests of citizens indeed took place. All of them were unauthorized. But despite this fact, participants of protest action freely expressed their opinion on social issues," Abayev said.
Local authorities met and heard the protesters, he noted. "We're ready for productive dialogue, and admit the detentions, which occurred only after show of aggression by some protesters. Several warnings were made before detentions," he added and said no one in Kazakhstan is stopped from applying for holding rallies legally.
Hundreds of people took to streets in Nur-Sultan and Almaty cities on May 1 to protest against the government. About 80 people have been detained.
