AKIPRESS.COM - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) allocates a lot of money for Kyrgyzstan to leave 92 deposits as they are, said PM Muhamedkaliy Abilgaziyev at the meeting with civil activists to discuss environmental issues on May 3 in Bishkek.
"About 100 billion tons of soil is extracted from the depths of the world worldwide annually and 90 billion tons of them are waste," he noted. Today, about 100 elements of the Periodic Table are extracted globally, he said, and it leads to environmental pollution.
Without remediation efforts, Kyrgyzstan will have to face consequences, he warned. But it takes a lot of money, according to PM.
Government is working on attraction of funds and a program of cooperation was signed with IAEA.
"IAEA allocate a lot of funds to leave 92 deposits as they are. There is a village Shekaftar surrounded by the tailing pounds. We must make sure our future generations won't suffer from hazardous elements," he added.
