Former head of state guard service of national security committee denies illegal wealth accusations

AKIPRESS.COM - Former head of the state guard service of the national security committee Damir Musakeyev called the criminal probe launched against him politically motivated.
He told media representatives that the authorities want to isolate him from ex-President Almazbek Atambayev.
Damir Musakeyev took media representatives on tour today to show houses owned by him and his father and brothers.
"The property belongs to my parents, myself and my brothers is valued at 5-6 million soms. The property belonging to my and my family is valued at 500-600,000 soms," Musakeyev told reporters.
The General Prosecutor's Office said on May 8 a criminal probe was launched against Musakeyev in connection with news articles alleging about the wealth of Musakeyev. The General Prosecutor's Office said that those articles "provide specific names and addresses of real estate, which Musakeyev has allegedly acquired during his tenure as deputy chairman and chairman of the 9th service and registered them under his close relatives' names to hide his illegal wealth."
The state registration service, according to the statement, confirmed that majority of the wealth was gained by him in 2010-2017 and registered under his parents and cousin's name. The total cost of the property is estimated at more than 20 million soms, the statement said, which is "much more than he formally earned in 2010-2017."
