Preparations for parliamentary elections begin in Tajikistan

AKIPRESS.COM - Preparations for elections to lower house of the parliament began in Tajikistan, the Central Election Commission said the political parties will soon provide the lists of their observers in 41 electoral district.
The elections are due for early 2020 and will be held without participation of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan for the first time ever after the party failed to pass the 5% threshold necessary to take seats in the parliament and was declared a terrorist organization in Tajikistan.
The previous elections to the lower house took place on 1 March 2015. The ruling People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan won 65.2 percent of the votes.
International observers, who were present at more than 50% of polling stations, gave a negative assessment of the election.
