First phase of creation of income-generating project start in Kyrgyz colonies

Bishkek, May 16, 2019. /Kabar/. The State Service for Punishments Execution (SSPE) of the Kyrgyz Republic, together with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), conduct a set of activities to deradicalize prisoners convicted of crimes of a terrorist nature and extremist orientation.
The implementation of the 1st phase of the project on creation of income-generating industries for employment of convicts of terrorism and extremism began with the appointment of Melis Turganbayev as Head of the SSPE of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Lately, there has been an increase in the number of people convicted of extremism and terrorism. For example, in 2012, this figure was less than 100 convicts, and in 2019 there were already more than 550 convicts.
Work is being carried out to establish a production hall, where convicts will be trained in new professions.
Thus, the implementation of the 1st phase of the project on creation of income-generating industries, for those convicted of terrorism and extremism, has begun.
Within the framework of the Year of Regional Development and Digitalization of the country, the production of meat and dairy products, a plow farm, a factory for the production of dried fruits, a service station with training of convicts are organized in four colonies-settlements. Two projects are being implemented in colonies-settlements located in the northern regions, and another two - in the south.
