Bishkek city court upholds arrest of two Bishkek ex-mayors

AKIPRESS.COM - Bishkek city court upheld arrest of ex-mayors of Bishkek Kubanychbek Kulmatov and Albek Ibraimov on May 20.
District court has earlier ruled to arrest the ex-mayors for 2 months. They are kept in remand prison of the national security committee.
Attorney of politicians Sergei Slesarev said the detention of his clients is unlawful over over a month, because on 31 January 2019, the judge received a criminal case. According to the law, 2 months are given for investigation of the case, and the judge was supposed to either change the measure of detention or extend it, but the judge did not do it, he said.
Kulmatov said he has not read the case yet and he has not received indictment. He also claims that he has not been summoned for investigative events at all.
Ibraimov was detained on July 12, 2018 and is being held at the pre-trial detention facility of the National Security Committee ever since. Ibraimov is suspected of corruption. He is accused of illegal transfer of lands to private individuals and legal entities. Kulmatov is suspected of misuse of $2 million grant from Chinese company TBEA meant for the construction of 2 schools in regions.
