Head of EBRD to visit Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, May 20, 2019. / Kabar /. Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Summa Chakrabarti will visit Kyrgyzstan on May 21 - 24.
According to the EBRD, Chakrabarti will meet with President Sooronbay Jeenbekov and other high-ranking officials of Kyrgyzstan.
During the visit, Suma Chakrabarti will take part in a number of important events aimed at addressing the effects of climate change in the Kyrgyz Republic. In particular, participate in the Forum "Clean Water for the Regions" and the opening ceremony of the Climate Finance Center in Bishkek.
Tthe EBRD attaches great importance to the development of infrastructure in the field of water supply and irrigation in the Kyrgyz Republic, and has already invested more than EUR153 million in 19 projects in the Kyrgyz Republic with grant support and in collaboration with the donor community, including the European Union and the Swiss Government.
The head of the EBRD will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Bishkek on the EBRD's Green Cities Program and the Agreement with Optima Bank, aimed at supporting small and medium-sized businesses in the country.
To date, the EBRD has invested over USD 825 million in the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the majority of investments aimed at supporting private entrepreneurship. In 2018 alone, the Bank signed 16 projects in the country in the amount of EUR 37.5 million.
