Bishkek, May 22, 2019. /Kabar/. "Kyrgyzstan attaches paramount importance to the issues of further deepening regional integration within the CSTO," President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov said at the meeting with participants of meeting of Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
The Kyrgyz leader stressed that during the existence of the Organization, purposeful work has been carried out to further improve and strengthen the potential of the CSTO. Within the framework of Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship in the Organization, the previously announced priorities aimed at maintaining continuity are being consistently promoted, the President’s press service reported.
"Kyrgyzstan will make every effort to achieve the set objectives and strengthen our common collective security," Jeenbekov noted.
"The high activity of terrorist organizations in the northern provinces of Afghanistan and the Middle East requires the consolidation of the efforts of the CSTO countries. The adoption of a decision to reduce tension on the Tajik-Afghan border is relevant. There is importance to focus collective efforts on those areas that are most in demand. In this context, special attention within the CSTO should be paid to cooperation in the sphere of state border protection," Jeenbekov said.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Beibut Atamkulov, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirodjidin Mukhriddin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Andrei Dapkiunas, Acting CSTO Secretary General Valery Semerikov spoke at the meeting.
They noted that all events within the framework of the Kyrgyz Republic's chairmanship in the CSTO in 2019 are organized at a high, substantive level. They stressed that they fully support the priorities of the Kyrgyz Chairmanship, which are in line with CSTO approaches and share Kyrgyzstan's assessment of the growing role of the Organization.
