Bishkek, May 24, 2019. /Kabar/. Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev, the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic familiarized himself with the construction progress of alternative North-South road within the framework of his working trip to Naryn Oblast, the Government’s press service reported.
Minister of Transport and Roads of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhanat Beishenov informed that the third phase of the construction project is currently being implemented - the project of connecting Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) 1 and CAREC 3 transport corridors, Epkin-Bashkuugandy section (89.5 km - 159.2 km) with the length of 69.7 km. Completion is planned for 2022.
"There is need to accelerate the process of road construction works, and to complete the construction in a timely manner, quality and in full," the prime minister said.
Work on the project area’s cleaning, removal of soil and vegetation layer and unsuitable material on 159.2 km of the project site was started in April of the current year.
The Asian Development Bank approved in 2016 a $114.35 million loan and grant for the CAREC Corridor 1 and 3 connection road project and for rehabilitation the Epkin-Bashkugandy 70 km. section of the North-South Alternative corridor linking the Balykchy town to Jalal-Abad Oblast.
