25.4% of adult population smoke in Kyrgyzstan

According to her data, 48.2% of smokers are men and 2.7% are women. 48.2% is 425 thousand 713 male smokers.
"The World No Tobacco Day will be marked in Kyrgyzstan, on May 31, under the theme "Tobacco and Lung Health". The campaign aims to raise awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco use on human health. Another objective of the event is to call upon interested ministries and departments to take practical steps, convince them of the need for effective measures to reduce tobacco use and engage them in the struggle to win over tobacco," said Akmatova.
She said that the total mortality rate associated with tobacco use in Kyrgyzstan is 28% among men aged 35-69 years and 17% over 70 years, and among women - 4-5%.
"The structure of total mortality in Kyrgyzstan from the main non-communicable diseases associated with tobacco in the age group 35-69 years is: 1. Lung cancer in men - 344, in women - 20; 2. Cardiovascular diseases in men - 751, in women - 161; 3. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in men - 490, in women - 69; 4. other diseases in men - 209, in women - 15," said Akmatova.
She also noted that the death rate associated with tobacco among all cancers in men aged 35-69 years is 42%, in women - 3%, in men over 70 years - 31%, in women - 6%.
"Thus, in the structure of mortality, the three most important diseases have a causal relationship with tobacco — these are cancer diseases, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cardiovascular diseases," said Akmatova.
