Bishkek, May 30, 2019. /Kabar/. Introduction of modern technologies in the banking sector is not enough, there is need to increase financial literacy of the population, Tolkunbek Abdygulov, the Chairman of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan told reporters during the Bishkek International Financial Forum.
He stated that the banking sector in Kyrgyzstan has historically been one of the most dynamically developing sectors of the economy, which is absolutely transparent.
"Over 15,000 people work in our banking sector. This is a huge part of the population. The banking sector is one of the most advanced in information technologies. Any information technology is available at the customer's request. We should work together not only on infrastructure, but also on improving financial literacy," Abdygulov said.
The head of the National Bank said that today the banking sector has something to be proud of, because the national payment system has been created in the country, which provides 100% security of payments.
He also spoke about the work on the regulatory framework within which the draft law was developed, about the prospect of creating separate regimes for the implementation of some banking products.
Abdygulov noted that today the work is underway to change the principles of deposit protection.
"We believe that there is need to increase the share of deposits that will be protected by the state. This will guarantee people that they can safely invest in financial institutions," he added.
"The National Bank is very attentive to this. The growth of the deposit base shows that the level of confidence in the banking sector is growing," he concluded.
