AKIPRESS.COM - A memorial to figure skater Denis Ten killed in Kazakhstan in 2018 will open in Almaty, Tengrinews.kz reports. The monument will be built on the place he was stabbed to death. The object will be inaugurated on June 13 and dedicated to the athlete's birthday.
Denis Ten, an Olympic bronze medalist in men's figure skating of 2014, was stabbed in the thigh on 19 July 2018 in Almaty by two carjackers who were attempting to steal his car mirrors. Ten died from the severe blood loss at a hospital in Almaty 3 hours after being admitted.
Nuraly Kiyasov and Arman Kudaibergenov were sentenced to 18 years in prison for murder, the third defendant of the case - Zhanar Tolybaeva - was sentenced to 4 years in prison for complicity in theft and failure to report the crime.
His murder sparked a nation-wide outrage and sorrow with many people demanding to revisit the law enforcement system in the Central Asian country.
He was 25.
