Around 30 people detained following ethnic conflict in village outside Bishkek

AKIPRESS.COM - The ethnic conflict occurred in Orok village, Sokuluk district, following the brawl at the Eid al-Fitr prayer this morning, the local police department said. The exchange of heated arguments at the prayer this morning led to fight between young men, ethnic Kyrgyz and Turks. A Kyrgyz boy was brought to the hospital in the result. Outraged villagers then demanded expulsion of families of the Turks from the village.
The police detained around 30 people after exacerbation of the situation in the village. The villagers crashed houses and vehicles belonging to ethnic Turks.
Turkish Ambassador Kamil Firat visited Orok village. The Ambassador said the conflict should be resolved peacefully using diplomatic means and suggested to hold a meeting of the council of elders.
