Bishkek, June 6, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyz migrants have transferred more than $161,7 million to their homeland since the beginning of 2019, Mairambek Beishenov, the Head of the Migration Policy Department of the State Migration Service told during the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
According to his data, the amount of remittances by migrants made $2.6 billion late in the last year.
There are about 800 thousand Kyrgyz citizens abroad in labor migration, 80% of them in Russia, 30 thousand each in Turkey and Korea, etc., the State’s report said.
Bakhtiyar Tolonov, the Director of the Information and Consulting Centre of the State Migration Service also said that Kyrgyzstanis have begun to travel less for work in Turkey.
According to his data, 4,000 citizens have gone abroad to earn money since the beginning of 2019.
"2,500 of these left for Turkey, this figure decreased due to inflation against the dollar, which has made it unprofitable for our migrants to work there. For comparison, I can say that 27 thousand citizens left for Turkey in 2017. Now citizens have started to prefer such countries as Bulgaria and Germany. 300 citizens have left for Bulgaria and 250 citizens have left for Germany since the beginning of the year," Tolonov said.
