Internal military forces are no longer part of National Guard of Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan

AKIPRESS.COM - Amendments into the law on internal affairs bodies of Kyrgyzstan have been made to make the internal military forces a part of the single system of internal affairs bodies of Kyrgyzstan for ensuring public order, security of the individual and society and the fight against crimes.
The amendments were signed into law on 3 June 2019 and officially published today.
Before the law, internal military forces were a part of the National Guard of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan, which limited their potential and possibilities of solving service and combat tasks to ensure the internal security of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The tasks of the internal military forces of Kyrgyzstan according to the law on internal forces of the Interior Ministry are the following:
1. participation in protection of public order and safety;
2. protection of strategic facilities and special cargoes;
3. participation in declaration of states of emergency and martial law;
4. participation in activities to eliminate illegal armed groups, terrorist groups, separatist organizations and religious extremists;
5. participation in stopping mass clashes and conflicts of the opposing sides;
6. participation in rescue and evacuation of the population, conducting rescue and other urgent operation in the aftermath of emergency situations of natural and man-made character;
7. assistance to protection of public health and veterinary medicine in carrying out quarantine measures in the outbreaks of epidemics and epizootics;
8) participation in the territorial defense of the Kyrgyz Republic.
In 2014, as part of the military reforms, the internal military bodies were included into the National Guard of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan. According to the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan, using the Armed Forces for solving the domestic political tasks is banned. Armed Forces cannot be used to tackle mass acts of civil disobedience.
