Bishkek, June 7, 2019. /Kabar/. Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to the United Kingdom Gulnara Iskakova took part in discussion at the kingdom parliament building, the press service of the Kyrgyz Embassy in the United Kingdom reported.
A seminar "The United Kingdom and Eurasia: Women of the Decade in Diplomacy and Politics: challenges and leadership" was held in the United Kingdom parliament building on June 4. The event was organized by Helen Grant, a member of the British Parliament’s House of Commons and Bota Hopkinson, the Chairwoman of the Conservative Friends of Eurasia.
Women ambassadors from Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Serbia and deputy ambassador of Israel, accredited in the United Kingdom, spoke at the discussion along with the organizers. Speakers talked about their diplomatic careers, the situation of women diplomats in their foreign ministries and other public services, and the main problems in the women’s advancement.
Gulnara Iskakova noted in her speech that regardless of the country, women face similar prejudices and difficulties in their careers and that women's representation in diplomacy, as well as in power structures in general, remains low.
Telling about the situation with the promotion of women's representation in power in her country, Ambassador Iskakova shared with the audience the history of Kyrgyz women's participation in country’s governance.
The Conservative Friends of Eurasia is a member-led organization that is helping to develop a meaningful relationship between the Conservative Party and the British Eurasian community.
