AKIPRESS.COM - The General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan denied the report about psychological pressure exerted on eldest daughter of the late first President of Uzbekistan Gulnara Karimova, who is serving a prison term in the Zangiat women's prison and denied medical treatment. Her health condition is normal. If necessary all medical treatment will be provided, the General Prosecutor's Office said.
Gulnara Karimova's Swiss attorney Gregoire Mangeat said earlier on Twitter that Gulnara Karimova is under constant psychological pressure and is denied medical treatment.
46-year-old Gulnara Karimova was sentenced to 10 years in prison for tax evasion, embezzlement, extortion, destruction of documents of offshore companies in December 2017. In July 2018, her prison term was shortened to 5-year house arrest. Gulnara Karimova was returned back to prison over violation of house arrest conditions.
In 2015, criminal probes were launched against Gulnara Karimova in Sweden, Switzerland, U.S. where she was accused of appropriation of around $1 billion. The question is about bribes that daughter of late Islam Karimov received from big telecom providers - Telia, Vimpelcom, MTS - for their presence at the mobile communication market in Uzbekistan.
All three companies admitted they gave bribes to Gulnara Karimova. The U.S. then brought official charges of bribery, money laundering for $865 million against Gulnara Karimova.
