AKIPRESS.COM - Parliament committee for agrarian policy considered and passed the ratification of the agreement between Kyrgyzstan and the Asian Development Bank on the implementation of the Issyk-Kul Wastewater Management Project.
The project will improve wastewater services in two lakeshore cities on Issyk-Kul lake, in the eastern region of the Kyrgyz Republic. It will upgrade and expand the existing wastewater systems, build institutional capacity, and strengthen the sustainability of the water supply and sanitation (WSS) utilities in Balykchy and Karakol.
The ADB will extend $41.82 million for the project implementation, including $12.84 million in grants and $23.68 million in loans for 32 years, including 8 years of grace period, Director of the State Agency for Architecture, Construction and Housing and Communal Services Baktybek Abdiyev said.
65% of wastewater systems of Karakol and 45% of wastewater systems in Balykchy will be improved, he said. The similar project will later be implemented in Naryn town.
