Tashkent, June 11, 2019. /Kabar/. Dilshod Azimov, the First Deputy Minister of Housing and Communal Services of Uzbekistan, and Cindy Malvicini, Head of the Asian Development Bank Permanent Mission to Uzbekistan, signed an agreement to provide public-private partnership advisory services to improve municipal water infrastructure in Samarkand, Bukhara, Namangan and Qarshi Uzbek cities, the press service of the ADB in Tashkent reported.
"The project will attract a highly qualified and experienced private water operator, which helps to improve water supply and the quality of services provided to the population of these four cities," the Uzbek official expressed hope.
ADB will act as an advisor to the Government in preparing and structuring projects and engaging private partners by early 2021.
ADB's advisory services will help demonstrate the capacity of the private sector to improve existing water supply and sanitation systems in Uzbekistan. It will also help attract additional investment and international experience to support further improvements in the sector, the local experts said.
ADB has committed $7.1 billion in loans and $85.9 million in technical assistance grants to Uzbekistan since it joined the bank in 1995.
