Bishkek, June 15, 2019. /Kabar/. Together we can find a solution to challenges we face in preserving peace and security, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov said speaking at the Fifth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The Kyrgyz leader noted that the Kyrgyz Republic firmly adheres to the goals and principles of the Meeting on Strengthening Mutual Confidence and Regional Security, his press service reported.
He noted that the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, having shown political foresight, has proposed in 1992 to convene a meeting on Confidence-Building Measures in Asia. The initiative was supported by a number of Asian states and the United Nations. Since then, with the efforts of our countries, this platform of cooperation has been developing and strengthening.
"The world doesn't stand still. Today's realities dictate the need to improve our interaction in security policy, challenges and threats, the economy and sustainable development. In this regard, we support Kazakhstan's initiative to establish an Organization for Security and Development in Asia on the basis of the CICA," Sooronbay Jeenbekov said.
The Kyrgyz President expressed his conviction that Asia needs to deepen cooperation to ensure comprehensive development at the bilateral and multilateral levels.
"We have good positive examples of confidence building measures in the political and economic spheres. I am referring to the ongoing meetings and unique formats of the following integration associations. Firstly, it is the established interaction between the heads of Central Asian states. Secondly, we have a positive experience of Eurasian Economic Union, which is positioned as a rapidly growing integration association. Recently we have celebrated its five-year anniversary in Nur-Sultan. Third, the idea of promoting global economic objectives on the Silk Road is gaining increasing support in the world. We are ready to unleash further the potential of cooperation within the framework of the One Belt, One Road," Sooronbay Jeenbekov said.
He stressed that the reasons for the convening of the Conference remained relevant for Central Asia and that the processes taking place in the Asian region dictated the need to combine efforts to find effective responses to challenges and threats.
"The Kyrgyz Republic strongly condemns terrorism and extremism in all its forms and manifestations. As an active participant in the fight against extremism and terrorism, we have adopted a relevant State program. We have defined a clear algorithm of joint actions of public authorities and the whole society to counter extremism and terrorism," the head of state said.
"We seek to contribute to the common cause of the UN to ensure peace, global security and sustainable development. We are ready to continue to making efforts in joint actions in the fight against new challenges and threats," he added.
"The UN General Assembly resolution on preventing radiation threat in Central Asia, which was initiated by Kyrgyzstan, was adopted. We look forward to further cooperation in environmental protection in bilateral and multilateral formats. I would like to express my gratitude to our allies Russia, Kazakhstan and foreign partners, who provide us with substantial support in addressing the problem of uranium tailings," Jeenbekov said.
