Osh, June 17, 2019 /Kabar/. The first pilaf festival of this year took place on the platform in front of the Osh National Drama Theatre named after Sultan Ibrayimov on June 15. The aim of the festival is to get acquainted with the national traditions and peculiarities of preparation of the main dish of rice regions of Kyrgyzstan: Osh, Jalal-Abad and Batken.
The main participants of the culinary event, which was attended by more than 200 people, were representatives of public catering of Uzgen, Nookat, Aravan, Kara-Suu regions, Osh city, rice farmers and residents of the Osh Oblast, as well as foreign guests of the city.
Cooks from different regions of the country were invited to the festival, so the guests of the festival had the opportunity to taste many kinds of this delicious dish. City tourists also participated in the festival.
"We accidently came to this bright event. This is a unique opportunity to see with your own eyes the difficult and fascinating process of cooking a national dish," Vicky Martin from Australia shared her impressions.
The winners of the contest in the category "The best pilaf" were the participants from Osh, Kyzyl-Kiya, and Uzgen cities.
The main achievement of the festival was the positioning and branding of domestic rice, familiarization with the culture of hospitality, strengthening the potential of rice farmers of Osh Oblast, promoting the art of chefs, protecting national values and respect for the cultural heritage of our people.
Pilaf (US spelling), or pilau (UK spelling) is a rice dish, or in some regions, a wheat dish, whose recipe usually involves cooking in stock or broth, adding spices, and other ingredients such as vegetables or meat, and employing some technique for achieving cooked grains that do not adhere.
