Bishkek, June 20, 2019. /Kabar/. Prime Minister Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev has met with Yang Dazhu, the International Atomic Energy (IAEA) Deputy Director General.
The Government’s press service reported that the Kyrgyz Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the organization for the assistance provided to Kyrgyzstan through the Technical Cooperation Program.
"I would like to assure you that Kyrgyzstan is a reliable partner for the IAEA and that the technical assistance provided to our country serves its purpose, in particular, to strengthen radiation and nuclear safety, improve the quality of medical services in nuclear medicine for the population, which is one of the priority tasks of our state. I would like to note the importance of providing support to the Ministry of Health in the fight against cancer. In this respect, I would like to express a request to pay attention to this component of the technical cooperation," the prime minister said.
"Kyrgyzstan's signing of the Country Program Framework for 2018-2022 demonstrates the Kyrgyz side’s readiness to expand ties in technical cooperation," Abylgaziev added.
IAEA Deputy Director General Yang Dazhu noted that he was pleased with his first visit to Kyrgyzstan, meeting with the Head of the Government and expected meetings with the heads of several public authorities.
"Thank you for your appreciation of our organization's work. We can note with satisfaction the continuing interest of the republic in promoting nuclear science and technology for sustainable economic and social development. The IAEA aims to further developing fruitful cooperation and partnership with Kyrgyzstan," concluded Yang Dazhu concluded.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on a number of topical issues.
The International Atomic Energy Agency is an international organization that seeks to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and to inhibit its use for any military purpose, including nuclear weapons. The IAEA was established as an autonomous organization on July 29, 1957.
