AKIPRESS.COM - President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev commented on repatriation of 156 citizens of Uzbekistan from a war zone in Middle East.
"It was hard to bring them back. A plane that we sent there had to turn around and fly back halfway. I was called and told that the plane will be downed," Mirziyoyev said on June 21 during the Senate session. "The plane had to land in Azerbaijan. We've sent buses there to bring women and children back. Only 2 out of 5 buses returned. Many could not be taken," Mirziyoyev said asking the parliament to think about how to work with these women.
156 citizens of Uzbekistan, mainly women and children, were repatriated from war zones in Syria and Iraq on May 30 in a special humanitarian operation called Kindness.
"These people left our country by mistake experienced a difficult life period. The government will provide medical, psychological, financial support to them," the President's Office said in a statement.
Recently, a woman who returned from Syria was presented a two-bedroom apartment by Uzbek officials.
