Bishkek, June 24, 2019. /Kabar/. 26 days against torture information campaign is being conducted in Kyrgyzstan, Dinara Sayakova, the Deputy Director of the National Centre for the Prevention of Torture told during the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
According to her data, the 26 days against torture information campaign, dedicated to the 7th anniversary of the National Centre for the Prevention of Torture, the 35th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) Convention against Torture and the UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture has been launched in Kyrgyzstan on June 1.
Since the beginning of the campaign, the National Centre has conducted a number of preventive visits to closed institutions in cooperation with the local administration in order to check the conditions of detention and 18 institutions have been inspected.
"Photo exhibitions of victims of torture, as well as a debate tournament among students were held in capital’s universities on June 17-24. A number of events dedicated to these dates were conducted in the territorial offices of the National Centre," the deputy director said.
The "Kyrgyzstan on the Way to Eliminate Torture: Problems, Achievements and Prospects" international conference with the participation of heads of ministries and law enforcement agencies and international experts will be held in Bishkek on June 26.
The campaign is carried out within the framework of the Supporting the State and Civil Society efforts in combating Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment in Kyrgyzstan project, implemented by the Penal Reform International office in the Kyrgyz Republic with the financial support of the European Union.
