Kazakhstan ratifies treaty on prohibition of nuclear weapons

AKIPRESS.COM - The Senate of Kazakhstan at a plenary session today passed a law on ratification of a treaty on prohibition of nuclear weapons, Zakon.kz reports.
The document bans production and testing of nuclear weapons, Minister of Foreign Affairs Beibut Atamkulov said.
"The process of agreement's entering into force might last up to 5 years," he noted.
The diplomat added that ratification of the agreement will contribute to building and preserving of peace free from nuclear weapons.
The treaty was open for signing since September 20, 2017 on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New-York and will enter into its force after ratification by 50 countries. To date, the document was signed by 70 states and ratified by 23.
