Bishkek, June 25, 2019. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan’s child protection policy is one of the most advanced in the post-Soviet space, Nazgul Turdubekova, the Director of the Child Rights Defenders League Public Foundation told journalists at the National Forum, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
She said that since the adoption of the United Nations (UN) Convention, there have been changes in child protection policy in Kyrgyzstan. Over the 30-year period, many post-Soviet countries, including Kyrgyzstan, have significantly improved the situation of children's rights, and especially the right of the child to protection from severe violence.
"An important achievement is that Kyrgyzstan has ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities this year. This is also an important document to promote the rights of children with disabilities. Based on a review of the government's achievements in the 25 years since the country joined the Convention, Kyrgyz legislation and child protection policy are among the most advanced, exemplary and best models in the post-Soviet space," Turdubekova said.
Tokon Mamytov, the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan, said the creation of the Children's Ombudsman is the best way to address the current problem of children in the country, and the commissions for children's affairs should review their work, make an analysis, draw conclusions where mistakes were made earlier and improve their work," Mamytov said assessing the work of law enforcement bodies in protecting children’s rights.
