Bishkek, June 25, 2019. /Kabar/. Chairwoman of the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Rights of the Child Renate Winter, speaking at the National Forum, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention, noted great importance for her to attend the event with Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov’s personal participation.
"Often Presidents pay attention to global, foreign policy and business issues. I have not seen the head of state take part in such events himself. This shows that the solution to this problem is considered at the highest level," she said.
Further the international expert noted that the problems, considered here, such as violence against children, migration, problems based on religious differences and other issues are not only in Kyrgyzstan, but also worldwide.
The expert stressed that the majority of children in orphanages are not orphans.
"There is need to analyze and study the reasons for the presence of children in orphanages, where they are deprived of love and care. Children should grow up in a family. And I know that Kyrgyzstan is doing a lot of work in this direction," she said.
Winter also touched the issue on the safety of migrant children who remain in the care of relatives.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (commonly abbreviated as the CRC or UNCRC) is a human rights treaty which sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children. The Convention defines a child as any human being under the age of eighteen, unless the age of majority is attained earlier under national legislation.
