Bishkek, June 25, 2019. /Kabar/. Public discussions on torture issues in Kyrgyzstan is held in Bishkek.
Azamat Shambilov, the Director of the Representative Office of Penal International Reform in Central Asia said Kyrgyzstan since June 1 has been conducting an information campaign on torture and ill-treatment of persons.
Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic Tokon Mamytov, noted that people who have survived torture cannot stand up for themselves when confronted by law enforcement officials.
Mamytov noted that 90 % of the tortures occur outside the buildings of the District and Main Internal Affairs Departments, and torture is not decreasing in the country.
The United Nations International Day in Support of Victims of Torture – 26 June is held annually on 26 June to speak out against the crime of torture and to honor and support victims and survivors throughout the world.
