EU expresses interest in importing sea buckthorn from Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - During the Assembly of Mongolian Food Producers held on June 24, delegates of the European Union expressed interest in importing sea buckthorn from Mongolia, Montsame reports. President of Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) Otgondavaa Amartuvshin marked that the sea buckthorn of Uvs province was the first national product to be registered as geographical indication (GI), which will lay the foundation for future advances in the sector. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation between the farmers and manufacturers in the region to export products to the EU.
In order to export Uvs sea buckthorn to the European market, Mr. Amartuvshin called three sea buckthorn communities in the province to join forces and collaborate under the EU TRAM and Pro Value projects.
Geographical indication is a sign used on products which corresponds to a specific geographical location or origin. The use of a geographical indication, as a type of indication of source, acts as a certification that the product possesses certain qualities, is made according to traditional methods, or enjoys a certain reputation, due to its geographical origin.
