Bishkek, June 28, 2019. /Kabar/. Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev met with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative Yukie Mokuo on occasion of her mission’s completion, the press service of the Government reported.
The sides discussed issues related to the activities of UNICEF in Kyrgyzstan in implementing country programs aimed at protecting the rights and interests of children, protecting maternal and perinatal health and reducing child mortality.
The prime minister thanked Yukie Mokuo for the fruitful activity and successful implementation of cooperation programs in vaccination and vitaminization of mothers and children, expansion of children's access to education services, protection against violence and discrimination.
Abylgaziev also expressed special gratitude to the UNICEF Office for supporting the state initiatives to ensure access of children, including those with disabilities, to social services and education, taking into account Kyrgyzstan's ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Yukie Mokuo noted that the Kyrgyz Republic had made significant progress in reducing the mortality rate of children under 5 years of age, doubled the access of young children to pre-primary education programs, and about 40 % of children had access to kindergartens.
She noted that these are significant achievements, stressing the importance of investing in the development and well-being of children at an early age.
Besides, they discussed issues related to joint measures to prevent violence against children.
Yukie Mokuo noted that UNICEF is pleased to jointly implement the TUMAR national campaign under the auspices of President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and in close cooperation with the Kyrgyz Government.
The prime minister stressed that the Government is committed to strict compliance with all international requirements and standards in this area, would continue to invest in the system of social protection of motherhood and childhood.
Mukhammedkalyi Abylgaziev expressed his sincere gratitude to Yukie Mokuo and wished her success in future activities.
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), originally known as the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, was created by the United Nations General Assembly on 11 December 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children and mothers in countries that had been devastated by World War II.
