AKIPRESS.COM - Speaker of the State Great Khural (Parliament) G.Zandanshatar on June 27 met with Chief of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff team in Mongolia Geoff Gottlieb and IMF Resident Representative in Mongolia Neil Saker, Montsame reports. Speaker G.Zandanshatar emphasized that many achievements have been made in strengthening Mongolia's economy, and that mining sector has made dominant contribution to the GDP growth. He said, according to the National Statistics Office, Mongolia's economy grew by 8.6 percent in the first quarter of 2019, and the poverty rate has decreased by 4.3 percent this month. It was also noted that the Bank of Mongolia achieved concrete results in recovering the country's economy, avoiding debt default, mitigating economic vulnerability, and bettering the banking and financial sector.
Geoff Gottlieb underlined importance of the Speaker's stance in the successful implementation of IMF's Extended Fund Facility, while expressing pleasure at the fact that Mongolia's economy has revived in the two years of program implementation and that the program is showing more positive outcomes than in other countries.
