Osh, July 1, 2019 /Kabar/. A meeting of the participants of the upcoming international high-altitude expedition to Lenin Peak dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of brotherly relations between of Osh and Novosibirsk cities was held on June 30 in the Osh Mayor’s Office.
Deputy Mayor of Osh Nurbek Kadyrov received the guests and thanked the climbers for their arrival.
During the meeting the sides reached an agreement to hold a master class for interested in mountaineering and rock climbing after the return of the expedition participants to Osh. The participants noted the organization and successful conduction of the joint high-rise expedition will strengthen the brotherly relations of Osh and Novosibirsk, to serve as a vivid educational example for the youth of the two cities.
The expedition includes a senior team coach, master of sports of the USSR, an instructor in mountaineering, a record-breaker in high-altitude ascents (61 successful ascents to 7,000 meters and 9 successful ascents to 8,000 meters) Gleb Sokolov, President of the Everest-2018 climbing program support foundation (Novosibirsk), project leader, organizer of climbing charges and high-altitude expeditions Igor Leontiev, as well as three Russian climbers.
Lenin Peak is in Osh Oblast, on the border with Tajikistan, and reaches a height of 7,134 m (23,406 m). In Tajikistan, the mountain is known as Ibn Sina Peak. It is the third highest peak in the Commonwealth of Independent States countries, and the second highest in Kyrgyzstan. Lenin Peak is the highest peak in Trans-Alay Range, and the fifth highest in the Pamir Mountains.
