AKIPRESS.COM - Chevron company will offer contracting companies operating in Tengiz to increase a number of Kazakhstanis in senior management, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population of Kazakhstan reported. Minister Berdibek Saparbayev met with President of Chevron Europe, Eurasia and Middle East Exploration and Production Todd Levy and discussed issues of ensuring safety and favorable work conditions in Tengiz oil field.
Saparbayev said that the situation at Tengiz oil field is under control.
"The most important issues there are compliance to the laws of Kazakhstan, prevention of discrimination, difference in salary, work conditions of Kazakhstani and foreign specialists, any conflicts," he noted.
The Minister underlined the need to reduce a number of unskilled foreign workers in contracting companies engaged in implementation of the Tengizchevroil project.
Todd Levy said that the contracting companies will raise the issues of increasing a number of Kazakh specialists in management team. They will also toughen works on providing favorable conditions at work, he promised.
A brawl between Kazakh and foreign specialists arose in Tengiz on June 29 after a photo posted by one of the employees (citizen of Lebanon) on WhatsApp profile. The photo was negatively seen by other workers. More than 40 people received injuries after the conflict.
Governor of Atuyrau region Nurlan Nogayev said the conflict was caused by unequal work conditions of Kazakhstani and foreign workers.
