Mexican fencer to complete at 2019 Fencing World Cup under flag of Uzbekistan

AKIPRESS.COM - Mexican sabre fencer Paola Pliego has acquired Uzbek citizenship. She explained the move with corruption in the national Olympic committee. Since now on she will compete under the flag of Uzbekistan, she said on Twitter.
Paola Pliego is a bronze medallist at the 2015 Pan American Fencing Championships.
In 2016, she tested positive for forbidden substances days before the Rio 2016 Olympics, which ended her Olympic dream. She was cleared of any wrongdoing shortly after, but she was never called up to represent Mexico in international events.
In 2019, she announced she would compete under the flag of Uzbekistan at the 2019 Fencing World Cup.
