Bishkek, July 8, 2019. / Kabar /. Former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev is summoned for questioning by the Ministry of Internal Affairs for tomorrow.
Ex-President Almazbek Atambayev was deprived of his immunity on June 27.
Earlier, the parliament created a special commission to give a conclusion on bringing charges against ex-president Atambayev to deprive him of his immunity. The commission concluded that Atambayev could be involved in 6 crimes during his presidency and the MPs submitted the conclusion of the commission to the Prosecutor General's Office.
Speaking at the parliament session on June 27 the country’s Prosecutor General Otkurbek Dzhamshitov said that 5 crimes out of charged 6 are related to corruption. In particular, Atambayev is suspected of corruption during the reconstruction of Bishkek’s thermal power station and illegal supplies of coal for it, money laundering through a shell firm, the unlawful allocation of land and obtaining a plot of land for building his residential house outskirts of Bishkek as well as helping release Chechen criminal authority Aziz Batukayev.
Then the prosecutor general said that now Atambayev can be summoned for questioning, where he can testify and if charges are found, a criminal case will be initiated.
Earlier, representatives of Kyrgyz law enforcement agencies said several criminal cases had been launched against the former president, which they could not investigate due to his immunity.
