AKIPRESS.COM - Member of the Mongolian Parliament Zagdkhüügiin Narantuya on July 8 received Taiwanese delegates led by Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Li-Chiung Su, Montsame reports.
At the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the opportunities to cooperate in family and social welfare sector. MP Z.Narantuya noted that while bilateral relations are well-established in many fields including economy, education, science and health, cooperation in social welfare is not satisfactory. This parliament has the most women with 13 female members. We focus on children, family and social welfare issues. In 2016, we adopted the Law to Combat Domestic Violence. Due to increasing number of divorces among young people, we focus on providing youth with knowledge and information on family planning, relation and attitude, she noted.
Deputy Minister Li-Chiung Su said that they put special emphasis on empowering social workers. Last year, the Law on Family Education was adopted, according to which each district has social workers and the youth involved in special training on family planning before they get married. As a result, we consider that the divorce rate among young people will decrease. In the past, we were only concerned with the victims of domestic violence, but now we are focused on compulsory psychiatric treatment and training for offenders. It also provides information on any type of violence children that suits their age. Children started reporting the incidents both at home and in the neighborhood to the police. Most importantly, police and social workers should protect personal information well, she noted. Mrs. Li-Chiung Su emphasized the opportunity to cooperate in training social workers.
MP Z.Narantuya expressed willingness to study the legal system of Taiwan, experience of public organizations and train policemen and social workers.
