Bishkek, July 9, 2019. / Kabar /. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Space Mission, the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic is supporting NASA Engineer Dr. Alleyne Wardrop Alleyne’s trip to Bishkek to engage with youth, young inventors, women in STEM and Kyrgyzstani researchers. All events are free to the public.
Dr. Alleyne will share her experience on past and current NASA programs, and meet with girls and women interested in careers in STEM.
On July 9, 2019 Dr. Alleyne will conduct a workshop "Women in STEM" for young people at the American Corner in Bishkek, 242 Ogonbaev Str. She will meet with young inventors from the Academy Altyn Tuyun and with the Kloop-supported Satellite Girls.
Dr. Alleyne will meet with girls from Kloop’s satellite-building school in a practical workshop to discuss their plans to assemble and launch the first satellite in Kyrgyzstan. With U.S. Embassy support, Dr. Alleyne has already conducted four virtual workshops for these girls from March to June 2019. During these workshops, the girls learned the basics of engineering and satellite-building, including theoretical knowledge about receiving and transmitting data and testing procedures before the launch.
On July 10, 2019 Dr. Alleyne will give a press conference to journalists at Information Agency "Kabar," 175 Sovetskaya Str., where she will share information about her experience with NASA programs and the role of women in space. On the same day Dr. Alleyne will have a networking meeting with local researchers from the National Academy of Sciences, Ministry of Education and Science, Central-Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences, and researchers from various institutions of higher education.
Dr. Camille Wardrop Alleyne is an American NASA rocket engineer, space scientist, internationally-acclaimed speaker, writer, educational leader and science ambassador whose accomplishments in the field of space exploration have been extraordinary. In the highly technical fields of science and engineering where women are in the minority, she is one of the most-recognized women in aerospace engineering and one of the few women of color to serve in a senior technical management and leadership position at NASA.
