Bishkek, July 10, 2019. /Kabar/. Bishkek has joined the Paris Declaration calling for a complete end to the AIDS epidemic.
Deputy Bishkek Mayor Tatyana Kuznetsova and Director of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) for Central Asia Alexander Goliusov signed the document.
Note that Bishkek was one of the first cities in Central Asia to support the canons of the declaration. The declaration is signed by 300 cities and municipalities around the world. By signing it, the Bishkek Mayor's Office joins the initiative to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030, eliminate stigma and discrimination, and improve the health and well-being of people living with HIV.
The signing of the Paris Declaration is another tool for expanding partnerships between government organizations, civil society organizations, activists, improving the system of ART (antiretroviral treatment) procurement and finding public sources of funding for prevention programs.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Erkin Checheybayev, the Deputy Minister of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, Saydahmat Ismayilov, the Deputy of the Bishkek City Parliament, and Natalya Shumskaya, the Director of AFEW-Kyrgyzstan public foundation.
In 2014, Paris became the first city to commit to an accelerated response to HIV. The Paris Declaration is a document that brings together the entire society in the response to HIV. Commitments in the Paris Declaration include the achievement of the 90-90-90 targets, which means that at least 90 per cent of people living with HIV should know their HIV status; at least 90 per cent of people who know their HIV status should receive ART; and at least 90 per cent of people receiving treatment should have a suppressed viral load to enable them to live full lives and reduce their risk of HIV transmission.
