Bishkek, July 11, 2019. / Kabar /. "Kyrgyzstan’s policy of strengthening parliamentary democracy will be continued," President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov said in Bern during a meeting with Chairman of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation, Marina Carobbio.
The Kyrgyz President’s press service reported that, he stressed that there is a rather active inter-parliamentary dialogue between the countries. The Kyrgyz Republic shares values based on pluralism of opinions, democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Jeenbekov reminded that Kyrgyzstan attaches particular importance to the development of relations with the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
During the conversation, the President stressed that one of the indicators of achieving economic well-being of the country is the successful development of the regions and local governments, and therefore expressed interest in establishing sisterly relations between the regions of Kyrgyzstan and the cantons of Switzerland.
Chairperson of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, Marina Carobbio, noted that she was glad of the personal opportunity to discuss with the President of Kyrgyzstan issues of promoting inter-parliamentary cooperation.
She stressed the particular importance of the legislative branch of power in the further development of democratic institutions.
"I would like to note with satisfaction the positive trends in Kyrgyzstan, in particular, in the issues of protecting human rights, ensuring pluralism of opinions and fighting corruption," Carrobio said.
The Chairperson of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland expressed her readiness to continue the active inter-parliamentary dialogue.
