Bishkek, July 11, 2019. /Kabar/. There are more than 300 snow leopards in Kyrgyzstan, Abdykalyk Rustamov, the Director of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry told during the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
According to his data, now the number of the Marco Polo sheep has doubled, the number of snow leopards is not known, the specific data will be announced in 2021. But to date there are more than 300 individuals in the country.
"In addition, the number of bears, wolves, jackals and so on has increased. There are about 350 thousand marmots in the country, while wild goats’ number is 41 thousand this year," Rustamov said.
The snow leopard has the status of a rare or endangered species in all countries of residence. Hunting for this animal is strictly forbidden, it is listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species and the Red Book of Kyrgyzstan.
