Bishkek, July 12, 2019. /Kabar/. A delegation from Kyrgyzstan on learning from European experience to establish responsibility for violations of electoral legislation is in Strasbourg, France for a study visit, the press service of the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The delegation includes Minister of Justice Marat Jamankulov, Member of the Kyrgyz Parliament Umbetaly Kydyraliyev, Deputy Head of the President’s Office of Kyrgyzstan Almambet Saliyev, staff of the President’s, the Government’s Offices and other public authorities’, as well as members of the expert working group on monitoring of judicial and legal reform and the working group on improving the electoral legislation.
Within the framework of the visit, the delegation members on July 10 visited the Council of Europe and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), where they got acquainted with the work of the Venice Commission, the Parliamentary Assembly, judges and lawyers of the ECHR, as well as other bodies and services of the Council of Europe.
During the workshop, organized on July 11, the participants got acquainted with the European standards in the field of gender equality in the electoral process, as well as with the experience of several European countries on this issue.
Today, on July 12, the delegation will meet with representatives of the Venice Commission, legal and electoral experts of the European Union. At the meeting they will discuss issues, related to the improvement of the electoral legislation and further cooperation in the field of judicial and legal reform of Kyrgyzstan.
The study visit of Kyrgyzstan’s delegation is carried out by the Supporting the consolidation of democracy through electoral reform in the Kyrgyz Republic project, implemented by the Venice Commission with financial supported by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
The Council of Europe is an international organization whose stated aim is to uphold human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe. Founded in 1949, it has 47 member states, covers approximately 820 million people and operates with an annual budget of approximately EUR500 million.
