Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg Monday at the Canadian Forces Base in Petawawa, Canada, the Canadian Prime Minister's Office said in a statement, Trend reports citing Xinhua.
During the meeting, the two exchanged views on key global challenges and NATO operations and priorities, and they stressed "the importance of NATO's role in defending rules-based international order and promoting peace and security," said the statement.
They also discussed the importance of integrating the women, peace and security agenda in NATO operations.
Trudeau emphasized Canada's steadfast commitment to NATO, underscoring Canada's leadership and contributions to NATO in Latvia and the NATO training and capacity building mission in Iraq, according to the statement.
Stoltenberg arrived in Canada Monday for a two-day visit.
It is Stoltenberg's third visit to Canada since he became the 13th secretary general of the military alliance in 2014.
Trudeau last met with Stoltenberg during the NATO summit in Brussels in July 2018.
After his short stop in Ottawa, Stoltenberg will travel to Toronto later in the day to deliver a keynote address at Massey College at the University of Toronto.
